The Queen of the Bergamo Autumn: Polenta Taragna

When autumn arrives in Lombardy, there’s one unmistakable scent in the air: that of Polenta Taragna, the queen of Bergamo’s food festivals.
From October 25 to November 3, 2025, the town of Cologno al Serio (Bergamo) will host the beloved Sagra della Polenta Taragna, a culinary celebration dedicated to one of Northern Italy’s most traditional mountain dishes — a perfect mix of food, music, and friendship.

🍽️ History and Tradition of the Polenta Taragna Festival

Polenta Taragna was born in the Bergamo and Valtellina valleys, made from a blend of cornmeal and buckwheat flour, enriched with butter and local cheeses such as Branzi or Bitto.
This festival brings the authentic mountain flavors down to the plains, turning Cologno al Serio into a lively celebration of rural life and local cuisine.

The first edition took place more than a decade ago. Since then, it has grown into one of the most anticipated autumn events in the Bergamo lowlands.
Every year, thousands of visitors gather at the Parco della Rocca, surrounded by delicious aromas, cheerful crowds, and live music.
