Wednesday, April 30: Celebrations begin with the traditional “unveiling” of the statue of the Saint, greeted with applause, tears and songs.

Thursday, May 1: Central day of the feast, with the great procession of Saint Philip through the streets of the town. A moment of living faith, accompanied by music, fireworks and the characteristic “flight of the Saint”.

According to tradition, he preached in Asia Minor and was martyred in Hierapolis, Turkey.

Aidone is a charming village located in the province of Enna, in the heart of Sicily. It is not directly served by highways or main train stations, but getting there is still easy and scenic, with a few small precautions.

🚗 By Car (the most convenient option)
The car is definitely the best way to reach Aidone, especially if you want to enjoy the rural landscape and perhaps also visit the surroundings, such as Morgantina and the Archaeological Museum.

From Catania (about 1h 15 min – 90 km):
Take the A19 motorway (Catania–Palermo), Dittaino exit.

Follow the signs for Piazza Armerina, then Aidone.

From Palermo (about 2h 30 min – 160 km):
Take the A19 motorway towards Catania, Mulinello or Enna exit.

Continue to Piazza Armerina, then Aidone.

From Enna (provincial capital – about 45 min):
Take the SS117 bis towards Piazza Armerina, then follow the signs for Aidone.

🚌 By Bus
Aidone is connected by scheduled buses (AST and SAIS) with some Sicilian cities, but with limited timetables, so it is advisable to plan well.

From Enna, Catania and Piazza Armerina, some buses leave daily.

🚆 By Train (to a nearby point)
Aidone does not have its own train station, but you can get there by train to:

Dittaino (useful stop if you are coming from Catania or Palermo)

Piazza Armerina (only by bus, as the train station is no longer in use)

From there, continue by bus or taxi for the last few kilometers.

✈️ By Plane (for those arriving from far away)
The closest airports are:

✈️ Catania Fontanarossa (CTA) – 90 km (~1h 15 min)

✈️ Comiso (CIY) – 110 km (~1h 30 min)

✈️ Palermo (PMO) – 160 km (~2h 30 min)

From Catania, it is easy to rent a car or take a bus to Enna or Piazza Armerina, then continue to Aidone.
